Tracks, Headings and Fullness
An S-fold, also called a wave fold, is the heading most people picture when they think of sheers: a continuous, even ripple that holds its shape whether the curtain is open or closed. It runs on a slim aluminium track that we recess into the ceiling, mount to the ceiling face or fix to the wall, depending on the cornice and the window. We set the fullness at around double the track width so the wave never flattens out, run the track wall to wall where the room allows, and finish the drop so the hem floats just above the floor. Pencil pleat and pinch pleat headings are available where a more traditional look suits the house, and every track can be hand-drawn, cord-drawn or motorised.
Sheer Fabrics: Linen-Look, Voile and Privacy Sheers
Not all sheers do the same job. A light voile lets the most light through and gives the softest look, but offers little privacy in a ground-floor room. A linen-look sheer has more body, hides more from outside and suits the relaxed coastal interiors that dominate the new estates. Privacy sheers sit at the heavier end and blur the view in almost completely by day while still glowing with light. A double track carries a sheer on the front channel and a blockout curtain on the back, so the sheer does the daytime work and the blockout closes the room down at night.
